Bella, a Chow Chow, came to Debbie's training class as a fearful, aggressive dog. After being in her adoptive home for only a month, she had bitten 3 adults. She didn't tolerate humans or animals. She paced constantly, eyes darting all around. When she slept, she never slept soundly. Debbie, an expert dog trainer began working with Bella in an attempt to give her and her family a quality life. Beginning with strategy to allow her to place Bella on a lead while keeping her hands from being bitten, Debbie understood her actions were based in fear, but could tell she wanted to trust.
Bella's behavioral training began with simple muzzle and leashing to allow her to safely become accustomed to typical training aids. Over many months, with the aid of treadmill training, Bella began to decompress. Slowly, Debbie began to introduce her to other animals and enforced her leadership by controlling the fear-based instinct to fight. This gave Bella the confidence in Debbie she needed to make progress.
As she progressed in her training, Bella became trusting of her family and adjusted to accept a dog friend or two. Eventually, Debbie began hosting pack socialization in a large fenced yard. No longer a threat, this good girl had a new outlook on life. While Debbie had saved her life, Bella paid it forward to other dogs in need by being a calming presence in their own behavioral work. She was Debbie's right hand girl.
Debbie's training paid off in more ways than one. Not only was Bella a behavioral training success, but she returned the favor to her dog trainer and to other dogs in need. Bella's sweet nature was perfect for training new puppies in dog training classes, and she set other fearful dogs at ease. Her easy temperament provided a relaxing influence on other dogs who came to Debbie for aggressive dog training. Aside from clients, Bella was the first dog to meet Debbie's puppy Spike. She became like a mother to him, patient, tolerant, and using only intensity level needed to make her point. She was a dedicated and safe playmate for little Spike, burning off his mischievous puppy energy. Debbie was Bella's leader, teacher, and best friend and Bella became her loyal partner and best friend. Due to the success of Debbie's behavioral work, Bella and Debbie could always count on each other.
When Bella became sick, Debbie struggled with being unable to protect her and keep her safe from the cancer in her body. Sadly, Bella crossed the rainbow bridge on March 8, 2021, but the legacy she leaves on this world is permanent. Bella was Debbie's best friend and constant companion. There will never be another Bella, but Debbie knew the perfect way to honor her. She is the inspiration behind All Paws Dog Training and Behavior Modification logo and her memorial paw print serves as a reminder that all paws deserve a chance. In Memory of Bella, we invite you to see the difference All Paws can make in your life.
